Though to the average person that you’ll meet on an airplane, if you tell them you draw comics, they’ll still have sort of the same response—not like that’s seeped into the culture at large, that comics are not just for kids. They might have seen some of the superhero movies, so they’re a little less resistant to superhero comics as inherently stupid, but that’s about it. They still don’t know quite what to make of it.

Daniel Clowes looks back on his career, his health scare, and how things have changed in the 15-odd years since editor Keith Phipps last spoke to him.

Watched “God Bless America” today

Eh. Probably Bobcat’s weakest film(Sleeping Dogs Lie and World’s Greatest Dad were so fantastic). Sort of came off as this weird mix between Super, Idiocracy, and Falling Down which is funny because like God Bless America, I find those to be enjoyable but flawed films. Also, all these movies seem to have great actors in them that seem to elevate these films tenfold(Falling Down would literally be unwatchable if not for Michael Douglas).

Anyway, I think focusing on American Idol was sort of a misstep. So many bigger things they could have set up as “the finale” instead of that. Also, the whole “William Hung” subplot thing was sort of weak. I did love the Glenn Beck character getting his though. Joel Murray and Tara Lynne Barr were both fantastic.

Definitely worth a watch but like so many potentially great movies, it unfortunately fizzles out quickly and never really pushes the boundaries as much as it should.
